The (unexpected) story
GIMBER founder, Dimitri Oosterlynck, dreaded attending yet another event serving cheap wine and sugary soft drinks. He wanted a sophisticated alternative to alcohol, one with character and kick but no booze. When his search came up empty-handed, he decided to create that drink himself.
The result was a drink with a delicate blend and unparalleled bite.
"I felt like Willy Wonka, only without the crazy kids.” Dimitri says about perfecting the recipe in 2017, after months of experimenting with ginger, lemon, herbs and spices.
“It was meant for personal consumption only” he says, “but my wife Sylvie and our friends quickly became a fan of the drink.”
Having recently gone through traumatic experience with his work as a cartoon producer, Dimitri was broke, and physically and mentally exhausted. He put his last few euros into buying a ginger press and his last few drops of energy into the production of 25 bottles of this magical ginger concentrate and GIMBER was born. It was produced in the family kitchen and for the first batch the labels were cut out with scissors and stuck onto the bottles with an old tube of his daughter’s glue stick.
Dimitri’s wife, Sylvie, who ran a concept store in Belgium, took some of the newly pressed bottles of GIMBER and showcased them in her store. After she did a little tasting with some of her customers, the first 4 bottles were sold, and then the bottles were flying off the shelves. To keep up with demand, Dimitri hired his 78 year old mother to help and 4 years later GIMBER is sold all over the world.
A root to be reckoned with
GIMBER contains more than 38% certified-organic ginger, a high concentration that not only adds to the unique warmth and flavour but also has numerous health benefits.
Some of the health benefits linked to this powerful root, or rather to gingerol - its main bioactive compound - include anti-inflammation (great for muscle soreness), reducing stress, relieving nausea and boosting the immune system. Imagine getting all that goodness from a knobbly looking root.
Such versatility
There are a lot of options out there that replace alcohol, but the problem Dimitri was trying to solve was that there was a lack of genuine alternatives to alcohol. Those ‘replacements’ tried to recreate the taste of alcohol, whereas GIMBER is an alternative in itself.
